Brook joins the Netflix adaptation of One Piece earlier than expected; the skeleton actually makes his debut much later in the original. However, there is a plausible solution that allows the creators to remain faithful to the original.
After the first season of One Piece, the Straw Hat Pirates are of course far from complete on Netflix, and the crew will meet a few new members in the second season. Fans of the anime and manga probably didn’t expect one upcoming shipmate to step aboard so soon: Brook.
Not only has the musical skeleton been confirmed by an insider for season 2, but now a promo image officially shows the man with the impressive afro. He will be played by Martial T. Batchamen (Lootere, The Morning After).

What is Brook doing in season 2?
The trip to the Grand Line was apparently booked by Monkey D. Luffy on Brooking.com, if the bony man is already appearing. In the anime, Brook only makes his first appearance in the Thriller Bark arc, but season 2 is not supposed to go beyond the Drum Island arc. So there are six arcs in between!
However, there is a plausible explanation: Brook will not join the Straw Hat Pirates in season 2 because we will probably only see him in a flashback.
There are two clues to this: First, Brook is not yet a skeleton in the promo picture, but a lively human being of flesh and blood. And for the second clue, we have to issue a slight spoiler warning for Season 2—you have been warned!
As can be seen in the trailer, Luffy’s crew encounters the lonely whale Laboon. He has been waiting 50 years for the return of the Rumbar Pirates, to which Brook belonged during his lifetime. There will probably be a flashback when Laboon talks about his encounter with him. Incidentally, Brook is a living skeleton because his Devil Fruit brought him back from the dead. However, the effect only took place after he had already passed away and his flesh had rotted away. Brook is not only known for his appearance, but also for his musical talent – the gifted violinist even becomes world-famous for his melodies!
