Autumn is fast approaching and the sun is slowly saying goodbye. No problem, there will soon be plenty of new games to enjoy!
Fans of triple-A blockbusters will be disappointed by my personal recommendations for the Switch 2 this month. That’s because the (hopefully) big moment has finally arrived for an upcoming indie gem. There’s also reason to rejoice for all role-playing fans who were already gaming on the NES in the late 1980s.
Apart from that, there are more exciting games coming to the Switch 2 in October 2025. Let’s take a look at my personal recommendations and the complete release list!
The most exciting Switch 2 games in October 2025
Mina the Hollower
- Release: October 31, 2025
- Price: Unknown
- Developer: Yacht Club Games
- Genre: Action-adventure
What’s it about? When you see the graphics in Mina the Hollower, many of you will instinctively glance at the calendar to check whether you’ve landed back in 1990. I can understand that, but I just love this nostalgic 8-bit pixel look!
Mina the Hollower won me over in terms of gameplay. Imagine a combination of The Legend of Zelda and… Dark Souls. Yes, Mina is really tough in many places. But this wonderful retro feeling paired with cool weapons, a great soundtrack, and a thoroughly interesting story had me hooked from the very first second.
By the way, you can already try Mina and the Hollower for free. You’ll find a demo in the Nintendo eShop that gives you a great preview of what you can expect from October 31, 2025.
Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake
- Release: October 30, 2025
- Price: $60 (Switch), $70 (Switch 2)
- Developer: Square Enix
- Genre: Role-playing game
What’s it about? The two remakes of the first two Dragon Quest role-playing games complete the so-called Erdrick trilogy. The remake of part three, which is known to take place before the first two titles, was already released in November 2024. Confusing, I know.
In terms of gameplay, JRPG fans like myself are once again offered everything their hearts desire. Lovable characters, tactical battles, a rich story in a game world that is no less detailed. Oh, I’m already tingling with anticipation!
However, even the new editions can’t shake off one flaw of the NES originals: the need for grinding. In some places, you simply have no choice but to defeat one monster after another in tedious monotony in order to level up and advance in the story. If that doesn’t bother you, go ahead and grab it.
