If you enjoyed playing Sims on your phone, we have some unfortunate news: After seven years, the mobile game will soon be disappearing for good.

Electronic Arts has announced the end of The Sims Mobile. After more than seven years and over 50 updates, the servers for the smartphone spin-off will be shut down in early 2026. It will be removed from app stores shortly, and in-app purchases with real money are already no longer possible.

The exact schedule until the end

This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been actively following the game: Electronic Arts announced last year that The Sims Mobile would no longer receive updates.

Now there is a schedule for the shutdown. If you still have the game on your smartphone or tablet, you should take a close look at the following dates:

  • October 20, 2025: From this date onwards, all in-app purchases involving real money will be disabled.
  • October 21, 2025: The game will be removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This means that it can no longer be downloaded by new players. Anyone who already owns the game or has it in their library can continue to download and update it.
  • January 6, 2026: As a farewell gift to the community, EA will unlock all items in Create a Sim mode and Build mode. This gives you full access to the entire catalog for the last two weeks, regardless of your game progress.
  • January 20, 2026: On this day, The Sims Mobile servers will be shut down for good. Since the game requires a constant online connection, it will be effectively dead and unplayable for all players from this point on.

To make the remaining time a little easier, EA has also made the energy for actions unlimited so that you can play the last few months without any waiting times. The usual events will continue to run in the game until the final shutdown.

The most important information for all active players: EA has made it clear that there will be no refunds for remaining in-game currency. Instead, EA recommends that you spend your currency while you still can.

Since your entire game progress, Sims, and built houses are stored on EA’s servers, this data will also be lost when the servers are shut down. An offline version of the game is not planned.

Focus on the future with Project Rene?

In the official announcement, EA thanks the community for its creativity, kindness, and imagination over the years. However, the publisher does not give any specific reasons for the discontinuation.

However, it could be that the discontinuation of The Sims Mobile is also related to the fact that resources are now to be concentrated on the upcoming Project Rene. This is the next generation of The Sims, which is to run on mobile phones as a cross-platform title. Incidentally, a real Sims 5, i.e., a successor to part 4, is not officially in development.

If you’ve been playing The Sims Mobile, it’s time to say goodbye: you have three months left to bring your stories in the mobile world to a close before the servers finally shut down.
