A new shooter has surfaced on Steam that looks almost photorealistic thanks to bodycam perspective and Unreal Engine 5.

Do you also remember the short video for this bodycam shooter that caused a lot of stir in late 2022? It”s actually turning into a real game now called Unrecord. We have the new trailer and tell you what you can expect from the first-person shooter with almost photo-realistic graphics.

Story shooter with hammer graphics: This is what”s inside

On the (Steam Shop page of Unrecord) you can find first information about what the finished game should offer at some point – there is currently no release or early access date.

So you can expect a pure single-player shooter, which with complex dialogues and difficult moral dilemmas puts great emphasis on the story, which is supposed to remind of a detective novel or thriller. As a police officer, you investigate various criminal cases here and have to deal with a variety of characters. The developers describe it on their (website) as a mixture of the story hit Firewatch and the SWAT shooter Ready Or Not.

But the biggest unique selling point remains the almost photo-realistic graphics and bodycam perspective, which you can check out in the trailer:

The high level of photorealism here is achieved not only thanks to the realistic lighting, various video effects like interlacing and bloom, and the bodycam perspective. Also thanks to the free movement of your character”s hands, achieved through an innovative aiming system immersion is supposed to set in.

On social media, many players are excited about the new trailer and (reporting in rows) that they struggle to tell gameplay and reality apart:

  • This is the only game I”ve ever seen that confuses my brain enough to make me think it”s real
  • The dark scene at 1:07 and the scene with the guy at the end are the only moments where I can clearly tell it”s a game. Everything else looks strangely realistic. Big kudos to the developer!
  • Halfway through, I forgot this was a game trailer. It looks so real.

He feels reminded of videos of real police operations and fears that the new technologies, which are also used in Unrecord, could be abused. A shooter à la Postal, where you play a spree killer, or the infamous Mission No Russian from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be guaranteed to cause scandals with this bodycam perspective.

What do you guys think? Are you excited about Unrecord or do you find this high level of photorealism rather alienating? Feel free to write us in the comments.
