In a week full of excitement on Steam, you can look forward to the return of a Warhammer classic, among other things. We’ll give you a quick overview of the most important releases.

While half the world is talking about Battlefield 6 and waiting for the second beta weekend, there are lots of exciting releases waiting for you on Steam this week, including the return of one of the best real-time strategy games of the millennium. So we’ll skip the long introduction and get straight to the most exciting Steam releases of the week.

Highlight of the week: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition

(Genre: Real-time strategy – Developer: Relic Entertainment – Release: August 14, 2025 (Steam)

The real-time strategy classic from 2004 returns completely revamped, including all content and technical improvements. Dawn of War – Definitive Edition packs the main game and all expansions into one package, allowing you to experience four extensive campaigns with nine different factions.

From the Space Marines to the cruel Chaos forces, all the major warring factions of the Warhammer universe are here to fight for the planet Tartarus.

Dawn of War has been modernized visually and technically: Thanks to reworked lighting, high-resolution textures, and new shaders, the battles look better than ever without losing any of the charm of the original.

The Definitive Edition finally runs natively in 4K and on 64-bit systems, which not only ensures smoother performance but also opens up new possibilities for the modding community. Improved pathfinding and a freely zoomable camera also make troop control much easier.

  • Echoes of the End: In this action-adventure game, you take on the role of the brave warrior Ryn, who is on a personal mission in the magical world of Aeme. Equipped with mysterious ancient powers, you fight, puzzle, and make decisions your way through an elaborate story driven by truly cinematic cutscenes.

  • Abyssus: Co-op roguelite shooter for 1 to 4 players. You equip yourself with a wide variety of weapons and supernatural abilities that you unlock as you progress through your dives. The title aims to impress with procedural levels, intense boss fights, and an atmospheric underwater atmosphere.
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard: Another well-known title is making its Steam comeback. Dragonshard (originally released in 2005) combines classic real-time strategy with role-playing elements in the D&D universe of Eberron. On the surface, you build your base and recruit fantasy armies of humans, elves, and other races. At the same time, you send a group of heroes into underground dungeons to recover powerful artifacts and treasures. This dual gameplay level—strategy at the top, dungeon crawler at the bottom—made Dragonshard unique at the time.
  • The Scouring (Early Access): Real-time strategy like in the best Warcraft games – The Scouring pits humans and orcs against each other in a battle for supremacy. In classic RTS mode, you build bases, gather resources, and command your armies. But the game also has some fresh ideas up its sleeve: at night, hordes of undead suddenly invade, which you must fight off, and an optional hero mode lets you directly control a powerful fantasy hero.

  • Dungeon Stalkers (Early Access): In this extraction dungeon crawler, you venture into dungeons full of monsters either solo or in a team – but you’re not alone down there. Other players are also roaming the dark corridors, and just like you, they’re after big loot and legendary treasures. Only those who leave the dungeon alive get to keep their collected riches! So you have to decide whether to ally yourself with others or stab them in the back. Dungeon Stalkers is now entering the early access phase and will ultimately be expanded as a Free2Play title with regular updates.

  • OVIS LOOP (Early Access): A combative sheep in space? That’s right: in this action roguelite, you take on the role of an armed sci-fi sheep with a large energy sword. You hack your way through endless hordes of enemies and improve your deck of skills and attacks after each run.
    • Dice Gambit: An unusual genre mix of turn-based strategy, role-playing, and visual novel. In Dice Gambit, you take on the role of a noble but heavily indebted family of inquisitors in the Victorian-inspired city of Neo-Talis. Your task is to hunt monsters, as creatures are wreaking havoc throughout the city, and you must assemble a team to fight them. You can customize your family members with dozens of skills, expand your estate, and even take on side jobs.
    • Inkshade: Inkshade presents turn-based combat on a spooky board game in which the characters look like hand-carved wooden miniatures. You find yourself in a labyrinth of locked rooms, orchestrated by a mysterious game master. In each room, Inkshade presents you with new tactical challenges: you position your characters on a hex grid, use their special abilities, and try to eliminate the enemy creatures. If you succeed, the way to the next room opens up.
    • Madden NFL 26: Sports fans won’t be left empty-handed this week either: EA’s traditional football simulation is entering its next round. Madden NFL 26 features all the current NFL teams, players, and rules for the 2025 season. Improved player feedback, even more authentic AI plays, and polished graphics ensure that every touchdown is a celebration.

      • Supraworld (Early Access): The creators of the surprise hit Supraland invite you back to a colorful puzzle world. Supraworld stays true to the recipe for success, combining first-person puzzle gameplay with Metroidvania elements. As a newly minted hero, you explore an open world that expands bit by bit as you find more skills and upgrades. Creative puzzles, hidden treasures, and humorous references await you everywhere.
      • Planetary Life (Early Access): For budding gods of creation and hobby planet builders, this sandbox simulation lets you transform a barren celestial body into a thriving world full of life. Use geological tools to shape mountains, dig oceans, and erupt volcanoes. By manipulating the climate, atmosphere, and tectonics, you influence temperature and weather to create ideal conditions for life. Once you have successfully ushered in the primeval era, you add life: first simple single-celled organisms in the ocean, then increasingly complex creatures. You accompany your species through stages of evolution until they become intelligent—and watch as they eventually found civilizations.

That concludes our journey through this week’s most exciting new Steam releases. But be sure to keep your eyes peeled until the end of the month, as there will be more exciting releases in the coming weeks.
