With the new trailer from gamescom 2021, even Max Payne and Neo from Matrix could only nod in approval.

A new trailer for the first-person shooter Trepang2 was shown at gamescom 2021 as part of the Future Games Show. The spectacular firefights, in which sparks and enemies (or at least parts of them) fly through the air, are strikingly reminiscent of the good old F.E.A.R., but the series has been on ice since the third part in 2011.

Trepang2 seems to want to fill exactly this gap and mixes slow-motion shooting with brutal melee attacks, flashy particle effects and a dark story. You can even slide into enemies, push them in front of you as a human shield or take them by surprise from behind thanks to the Cloak ability!

Nevertheless, the enemies are not supposed to be stupid cannon fodder, but rather react tactically to you, communicate with each other, carry out flank attacks and seek cover, just like back in F.E.A.R.

Demo now, release later

There’s still a while to go before the 2022 release, but to celebrate the gamescom trailer, a demo of Trepang2 is now available for download on Steam. For the final launch, a single-player campaign and a horde mode with waves of enemies will be included.

By the way, if you’re wondering about the name: Trepang2 is not a successor to anything, but the first title of the small Canadian studio Trepang Studios.
