The Adaptive Joystick won’t be on the market until next year

Gamescom 2024 is in full swing: In addition to numerous announcements and preview events for games, hardware manufacturers are also doing the honors at the Cologne trade fair.

This includes Microsoft, which is adding another accessory to the “Adaptive Controller” presented last year: the “Adaptive Joystick”.

In detail:The Adaptive Joystick is part of a total ofthree newly introduced input devicesthat are intended to provide better accessibility. Two third-party controllers designed for Xbox were also presented

  • The joystick itself has four classic buttons on the front as well as a thumbstick familiar from the Xbox controller.
  • There are two more buttons on the side, which function in the same way as the bumper and trigger.

According to Microsoft, all six keys can be customized individually

  • This requires a separate app, which is available for Windows PCs and Xbox.
  • Android and iOS users can also play with the Adaptive Controller; however, the developers do not provide any details on this.

Microsoft only mentions USB-C as a connection option with other input devices. A wireless connection is not mentioned

Other features:The Adaptive Controller itself has a 1/4-inch thread that can be used to screw the input device to a tripod, for example.

  • In addition, Microsoft is releasing a total of six 3D print files for free use, which it claims were developed in cooperation with specialists for accessible gaming.
  • These make it possible, for example, to operate the gamepad with the chin or with significantly less effort.

Microsoft mentions a release date of early 2025 without being specific.

However, the recommended retail price of the Adaptive Joystick in the USA has already been set: the input device will be available for 30 US dollars.
