IzanagiGames is bringing its new live-action game Akiba Lost to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The title will be released on September 17, 2026. A physical version has so far only been announced for Japan, with the Switch 2 version being released as a game key card.

Release and platforms

Akiba Lost will be released digitally for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Physical editions are also planned for the Japanese market. The Switch 2 version will use the game key card format. No other platforms have been mentioned.

According to the developer, Akiba Lost is a large-scale live-action game with around 20 hours of playtime to the end. The project includes over 100,000 still images and more than 20 hours of filmed video material. The focus is on a narrative structure with multiple perspectives.

Developers and collaborations

Behind the game is IzanagiGames, which previously explored the connection between film and games with Death Come True. Akiba Lost is being developed in collaboration with Japanese television station Nippon TV and production company AX-ON.

Plot in Akihabara

The story is set in the Akihabara district of Tokyo. The starting point is an unsolved missing persons case from the past, in which six girls disappeared 13 years ago. Game developer Daiki Shinjo announces a game based on this incident at a trade fair. Shortly afterwards, mysterious disappearances begin again.

The central question is whether Shinjo can complete the development of his game and who is behind the new events. The plot links fictional game development with real consequences within the narrative world.

Change of perspective and freedom of choice

Players switch between the protagonist Shinjo and six female characters. This so-called “zapping” system allows them to experience the same timeline from different perspectives. The decisions of individual characters can influence the course of the story and the fate of other characters.

In addition, a selection and branching system is used, in which decisions lead to different endings.
A freely movable camera allows for a subjective view from the perspective of the respective character. The ensemble includes Shinjo’s sister Aoi, a maid café manager, an underground idol singer, a gourmet writer, a shrine maiden, a cosplayer, and a game streamer. Each character is closely connected to Akihabara and its subculture and plays their own role within the plot.
