The detailed recreation of 15th-century Bohemia has provided an impressive backdrop for countless adventures. Now the sequel, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, has not only won the hearts of fans again, but is also about to take a decisive step towards creative freedom: the long-awaited mod support has been announced.
This message, which Warhorse Studios shared via Twitter, made the community cheer. Mods – small or large changes and additions that players create themselves – promise to take the game to a new dimension. “Bohemia will be even more exciting,” the developers’ message said. This statement was underlined with a humorous picture: the main character Henry rides on a whimsical pink and blue striped zebra, brandishing a fish in his hand. This sneak peek shows the potential mods could offer.
The possibilities seem almost endless. Players could write their own quests, create new characters or design completely crazy weapons. Even the popular Thomas the Tank Engine modification, which has already conquered numerous other games, could find its way into medieval Bohemia. The announcement promises a revolution in gameplay and has the creative community already in overdrive.
Modding highlight for PC only – for now
But the euphoria is not shared equally everywhere. For the time being, mod support is limited to PC only. The announcement of “Steamworks” as the basis for mods confirms this. Console gamers will therefore have to wait for this feature – if it comes at all. In the past, similar titles on platforms such as PlayStation and Xbox have had only limited mod support, which dampens hopes.
For PC gamers, on the other hand, exciting prospects are opening up. It is even conceivable that talented fans will create alternative endings for the story of Henry. One example of the creative possibilities can already be seen: a fan with a dark criminal career in the game recently discovered a particularly brutal outcome. With the modding tool, this storyline could soon expand endlessly.
