Splinter Cell is little more than a ghost in 2021. A notable insider is now certain that a new game in the series is being developed.
What is Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell actually doing today? Even in 2021, there is still no sign of a full-fledged series sequel. At least the official site at Ubisoft remains silent. The situation is quite different in unofficial circles: The usually well-informed insider Tom Henderson claims in an article for Videogameschronicle magazine that a new, proper Spinter Cell is finally on the horizon!
Henderson’s anonymous sources state that a major part of the series has been greenlit and is now in early development. While the insiders cannot shed any light on which studios are working on the creation of Splinter Cell 8. However, some sources believe that Ubisoft is said to have handed over the reins to a studio outside the usual suspects this time. Accordingly, no studio from the Montreal, Canada area is to be in charge.
The insiders also say that the title will probably be announced in 2022 at the earliest. Apart from that, the information is already getting thin, which shouldn’t surprise anyone considering the early state of production.

What’s currently happening with Splinter Cell
Lately, Sam Fisher has played many crossover spinoff supporting roles at Ubisoft: most recently, for example, an Oculus-exclusive VR spinoff of Splinter Cell was announced. He appears as an operator in the mobile game Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad and joined us on a special mission in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
On the main stage, it has been entirely silent around the already taciturn agent since the last Splinter Cell. To date, seven main spin-offs exist, released between the years 2002 and 2013, as well as numerous accompanying novels.
Ubisoft has stated in the past that it needs a fresh idea to realise a new main part of Splinter Cell. If Tom Henderson is right again, as he often has been in the past, fans could expect just that. However, you should be patient.
Patience is a virtue for fans of the series anyway: an animated series for Splinter Cell is also in the works on Netflix, for which a top-class author is responsible.
