(I should have switched it off) – Creator of Manor Lords warns against incorrect use of the castle planner

According to the developers, the building game Manor Lords should not have any city walls. As players are now building them anyway, the makers are asking them to exercise restraint

Oh, what a nice thing a city wall would be. If we had a high wall, we could protect our lands from wolves, bandits and other dangerous rabble.

This medieval desire for a secure wall is apparently not only shared by the GDR state leadership or former President Donald Trump, but also by players of the brand new and extremely successful building game Manor Lords

First released on Steam in Early Access last Friday, over170,000 medieval fans played the beautiful Manor Lords at the weekend at the best time of the year

Where there’s a will, there’s a way

As the game is still in Early Access (and will remain so for the foreseeable future), it should be clear that not all planned features of the finished vision of Manor Lords are yet included in the game. One example of this is city walls.

However, their absence apparently does not prevent players from looking for another way within the mechanics of Manor Lords to protect their cities from uninvited guests from outside or simply to visually enhance them with a wall.

A German Youtuber has now apparently found such a way: As One Proud Bavarian showed on his channel the castle planner tool in Manor Lords can apparently be misused to build a wall not only around your estate, but also around the entire settlement.

However, this must be well planned, because as you can see in the video, fenced-in houses can no longer be selected once they have been built. So you have to build the wall first and then place the remaining buildings – not ideal

How does the developer react?

Developer Greg Styczeń aka Slavic Magic apparently doesn’t find this ideal either… because the castle planner is not intended to fence in your settlement… In a Twitter statement, Styczeń wrote:

I’ve just seen how someone tried to trick their way into building city walls with the castle planner tool in a game test. Please don’t do that. I will add a *real* city wall tool in one of the upcoming updates. The castle planner is only for castles/fortresses. I probably should have turned it off for now

In short: Please hold off on building walls for a while, a proper tool is already in the works. And before you lock your houses inside a castle wall and then can no longer click on them, it’s better to wait for the corresponding update.

Who knows, maybe you’ll soon be able to build magnificent stone walls with fortified towers and gates around your town.

What do you think of Manor Lords so far? Do you already miss the city walls? Would you also like a moat? How are you currently protecting your settlements? Let us know in the comments below:
