The patch day for “Hunt: Showdown” brought chaos, server shutdowns and frustrating download marathons.
It was supposed to be the starting signal for the new in-game event “Judgement of The Fool”, but the patch day on Wednesday, June 18, ended in a complete standstill forHunt: Showdown
Immediately after the release of update 2.4, reports of widespread technical disruptions began to pile up. Players on PC and consoles reported failed connections, matchmaking not working and problems acquiring in-game currency. The problems were so severe that normal play was out of the question.
The emergency solution: Complete server shutdown
After initial attempts at a solution had failed, Crytek was forced to take a drastic step:All Hunt: Showdown servers were shut down worldwide.
The game was completely offline for several hours. In an official statement, the studio later explained that the update worked stably in all internal test runs, but failed under the real load of the live servers.
Instead of trying to fix the broken version with hotfixes, the team opted for a complete rollback. The entire game has been rolled back to the previous stable version 2.3:
Hunters, we sincerely apologize for the ongoing issues after update 2.4. After exhausting all possible solutions, we have decided to revert the game to update 2.3 to restore stability and will monitor stability.
Patch Day turns into a download marathon
In the meantime, patch 2.4 is available in its repaired form for all platforms, and the servers are running stable again. According to Crytek, problems with undelivered Twitch drop rewards have also been resolved. The “Judgement of The Fool” event could therefore start with a delay.
However, while the developers were working on a solution in the background, the rollback meant a considerable effort for many players.
Those who experienced the entire process first had to download the broken 24 GB patch, then another large patch to roll back to the old version and finally, after successfully fixing the bugs, download and install the corrected patch a second time.
This download marathon was particularly annoying for players with a slow internet connection or limited data volume.
The chaotic days also left their mark on the community: The game’s recent Steam ratings temporarily dropped to “Balanced” due to hundreds of negative reviews. Now that the problems have been resolved, the rating is slowly recovering, partly because the community is calling for reviews written out of frustration to be reconsidered.
