Humankind becomes Steam top seller, even though it’s also in Game Pass

A look at the current Steam charts proves that strategy is far from dead: Newcomer Humankind takes two spots despite being included in Game Pass.

A strategy newcomer conquers the Steam charts this week – even twice: Humankind is in 1st and 3rd place this week, pushing Naraka: Bladepoint from the top. This is also surprising because many players could play Humankind without buying it separately.

Global Strategy beats Battle Royale

Humankind wins both gold and bronze (with different versions) in the bestsellers of the week. And that’s not a given – after all, the strategy game has been available on Game Pass for PC since release at no extra charge. On Steam it costs 50 euros, while the subscription costs only 13 euros a month. But the offer doesn’t seem to have hurt Steam sales any further.

It would be much cheaper for money-savers to sign up for the Game Pass to play Humankind. However, the game will then not be permanently added to your library, you will only have access as long as it is offered in the subscription. Obviously, many players want the game to be theirs indefinitely, especially with a mod-friendly title like Humankind. Plus, of course, Game Pass is nowhere near as established as Steam.

What else is happening in the charts? Naraka: Bladepoint has to give up the first place after only one week, but it is still extremely successful – and with currently 70,000 players it is on the 7th place of the most played Steam titles. And is still selling strongly, as the 2nd and 10th place in the Steam top sellers shows.

Doom Eternal is defending its position as a perennial favourite, for which the current Bethesda sale may not be entirely innocent – you can get the hellish massacre for 15 instead of 60 euros until 24 August. The DLCs are also on sale.
