Seven years after its initial release, “Horizon Zero Dawn” is experiencing a renaissance in the form of a remaster for the PlayStation 5. This new edition takes the game, which was already praised at the time for its extraordinary graphics and exciting game world, to a new level. The team at Nixxes and Sony is taking the opportunity to make technical improvements in almost all aspects. The aim is not just a simple graphical overhaul, but a significantly more vibrant and dynamic gaming experience. New motion capture recordings for dialogues, improved character animations and a more detailed design of the cities create an even more intense atmosphere.

Particularly interesting for fans is the increased immersion. NPCs now follow a realistic daily routine and react to weather changes, just like the character Aloy and her companions. These dynamic elements and the improved interactions in the game world help to make the post-apocalyptic world feel even more lifelike. The technical adjustments to lighting, textures, and the density of vegetation not only provide a feast for the eyes, but also support the game’s narrative foundation by more credibly depicting the environment and its dangers.

Optimizations for Aloy and the game world

The remaster of“Horizon Zero Dawn” goes far beyond simple graphics optimizations, especially when it comes to the main character Aloy. Her appearance has been updated. The character model has been given improved hair , more realistic skin textures and additional details on her clothing. These adjustments help to establish continuity with the “Forbidden West” sequel . An interesting new feature is the so-called wool hairs, tiny hairs on the skin that are only visible upon close inspection. This is definitely a detail that illustrates the technical advancement and ensures a more intense gaming experience.

The world around Aloy also shines in new splendor. Players can now leave traces in the sand and snow, which enhances the physical presence of the characters. In addition, the game takes advantage of the DualSense controller on the PS5, which improves haptic feedback and makes the gaming experience more immersive. The remastered 3D audio and the enhanced soundscape contribute to the dense atmosphere. Overall, this remaster takes Horizon Zero Dawn to a new level, not only delighting old fans but also attracting new players.
