A hit – but no successor in sight (yet)
Helldivers 2 has been a real surprise success for Swedish studio Arrowhead. The mix of co-op action, chaos, and community events has earned the title a loyal fan base – but anyone already speculating about a third installment is likely to be disappointed. According to Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani, Helldivers 3 is not currently on the cards. In a conversation with fans, he made it clear that the team is focusing on the present and that a third installment is “hopefully still many years away.”

The creative mind behind the game, Johan Pilestedt, had already struck a similar note at the end of 2024. At the time, he hinted that the team wanted to further develop Helldivers 2 rather than create a new title straight away. This sounds very much like Arrowhead wants to use the live service model to add new content and ideas to the current game over the long term – perhaps until it feels like a third installment without ever having to release a new game.

What is Arrowhead planning now with the successful game?

So while a third installment is still a long way off, the studio is busy working on new content for “Helldivers 2.” Although the last major update was a while ago, the developers assure us that they are “cooking up something” – but there is no concrete information about upcoming features yet. Rumors about major changes or gameplay revolutions remain unconfirmed.

One topic that continues to preoccupy many players is the possible end of support. But Arrowhead dismisses this, saying that giving up on the title is not even being considered. Instead, community manager Katherine Baskin emphasizes that “Helldivers 2” can continue as long as the player base remains active. The future of the game is therefore directly in the hands of the community – and as long as they keep playing, the final chapter of “Helldivers 2” is unlikely to be written anytime soon.
