The live-action series based on God of War is already in pre-production, and the first cast members have been found. We summarize all the important information about season 1 for you.

For 21 years, players have regularly slipped into the role of the demigod Kratos. No opponent is safe from his legendary Chaos Blades. Amazon has secured the rights for a TV series that is slowly but surely taking shape.

So you don’t miss any information, we’ve summarized everything that is known about the live-action show so far. Here is a short table of contents – which we have put together ourselves, of course:

  • Release: When and where can I watch God of War?
  • Cast: Who is in the cast?
  • Story: What is the series about?
  • Sequel: What about season 2?

When and where can I watch God of War?

The series is currently in pre-production in Vancouver and there is no official release date yet.  However, we can probably expect a release in 2027 at the earliest – if not 2028.

The first season will comprise a total of ten episodes, which you will be able to watch on the Prime Video streaming service.

Who is starring in God of War?

The main characters have now been cast, resulting in the following cast list:

  • Kratos: Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, God of War Ragnarök)
  • Atreus: Callum Vinson (Long Bright River, Poker Face)
  • Mimir: Alastair Duncan (The Batman, God of War)
  • Odin: Mandy Patinkin (Homeland, Death and Other Details)
  • Thor: Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance, Somebody Somewhere)
  • Heimdall: Max Parker (Doctor Who, Strictly Confidential)
  • Sif: Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies, The Fall Guy)
  • Brok: Danny Woodburn (The Witcher, Seinfeld)
  • Sindri: Jeff Gulka (The X-Files, Charmed)

Here you can see some of the actors in direct comparison with their roles:

Ronald D. Moore, who has previously been responsible for series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica, and Outlander, is the showrunner, writer, and executive producer for the series.

What is the series about?

The live-action adaptation is based on the 2018 video game of the same name. After the death of his mother, Kratos and his son Atreus set out on a journey to the highest peak of Jötunheim. There, the two want to scatter Faye’s ashes.

On their journey, they encounter numerous dangers, but also new friends. However, Kratos’ relationship with his son is difficult, because while he tries to make Atreus a better god, Atreus just needs a father who is not quite so gruff.

What about season 2?

Amazon ordered two seasons right from the start, so you don’t have to worry about the series being canceled again. Of course, we don’t know what the sequel will be about yet.

Depending on where the plot of the first game in the series ends, season 2 could either continue this plot or take on that of God of War: Ragnarök. You’ll be treated to a seven-minute video at the end of this article, featuring all the times Kratos says “Boy!” to Atreus.

Now, of course, we have to ask you: Are you looking forward to the series? And how do you like the cast so far? Feel free to write your thoughts in the comments!

If there is any new, important information about the live-action adaptation, we will of course update this article regularly.
