What began as an indie video game ten years ago is now becoming a major series production: “Life is Strange” is getting a live-action adaptation on Prime Video. Amazon officially confirmed the project to Variety and immediately presented the creative mind behind it: Charlie Covell, known for the Netflix hits “The End of the F***ing World” and “KAOS.”

“It’s a great honor to adapt ‘Life Is Strange’ for Amazon MGM Studios,” said Covell. “I’m a huge fan of the game and am thrilled to be working with the amazing teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with other players and a new audience.”

This puts “Life is Strange” in the ranks of video game adaptations that have recently enjoyed success with series such as “The Last of Us” and “Fallout.” But Amazon is not relying on experimentation – the series is intended to stay close to the original.

Max, Chloe, and a secret that changes everything

The plot clearly follows the story of the first game from 2015: Max, a young photography student, discovers her ability to rewind time. When she uses this ability to save the life of her best friend Chloe, both of them find themselves caught up in a web of secrets, intrigue, and an ominous prophecy.

At the center of it all is the mysterious disappearance of a classmate, which draws Max and Chloe deeper and deeper into the dark abyss of their hometown of Arcadia Bay. It’s not just about truth and enlightenment, but also about loyalty, friendship, and the hardest decision a person can make—a choice between life and death.

Although Amazon has not yet announced the cast, one thing is clear: the series has enormous potential. Even in its video game version, “Life is Strange” was characterized by emotional depth, a melancholic atmosphere, and strong characters. In other words, exactly what a successful drama series needs. Now it’s up to Covell and his team to bring this unique feeling to the screen.
