Starbreeze Studios has done a great job of creating a compelling narrative in video game form here. In addition to clever mechanics, puzzles and fun, varied gameplay, the adventure game also shines with its very cinematic feel, thanks to the visionary Swedish director Josef Fares, who worked on the project.
Lovers of Nordic mythology and Scandinavian scenery will immediately feel at home in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The game transports us into a mysterious fantasy world, based on old and popular Viking sagas and fairy tales. As the player, we take control of a very dissimilar pair of brothers. Each with their own characteristics, weaknesses and strengths. But only if we let them work together do we have a chance of success. Because in order to make your way through dense forests, inhabited villages and remote mountain regions, you have to control the brothers simultaneously with both analogue sticks! A crazy at first glance, but at the same time innovative and interesting gameplay mechanic! It’s practically a co-op experience as a complete single player!
So you experience a surprise or two on the journey of the two brothers before your adventure is complete and leaves you with a lasting impression like a good film. Although you can see that the indie title has a few years under its belt (the muti platformer was released in August 2013), the special art style, the nevertheless clear facial expressions and the pretty realistic fairytale-like environment are still worth seeing.
