This week, you can get a cool 2D Sekiro with hand-drawn art style for free.
It’s a new Thursday, which means a new free game: If you’re into crisp 2D side-scrollers with a Far Eastern theme and a small dose of role-playing, then the Epic Games Store might have just the game for you: Eastern Exorcist.
Free at Epic: Eastern Exorcist
(Developer: Wildfire Game – Genre: 2D side-scroller – Release: July 8, 2021)
As the name suggests, Eastern Exorcist turns you into a ghost and demon hunter. You can choose between two characters: the exorcist Lu Yunchuan and the half-demon Xiahao Xue.
Both characters have their own storylines and encounter other NPCs and bosses along the way, so it’s worth playing both.
Basically, both have a set of melee attacks, a dash, the ability to parry, and their own list of spells, which are expanded as the game progresses.
Good stamina management, as in a Souls-like game, is extremely important. You have to find a good rhythm of attacks, evasive maneuvers, and spells so that you don’t run out of steam too quickly.
The game features a level system, and each level up improves your stats a little. However, you make real progress through new spells with their own talent trees, which not only give you active skills but also passive bonuses.
Eastern Exorcist has a completely hand-drawn graphic style with the look of Chinese ink paintings. The game is only available with Chinese voiceovers, but the entire interface is available in English.
On Steam, Eastern Exorcist has an 84 percent positive user rating, based on over 6,000 reviews.
As always, you have exactly one week, until October 2, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., to secure the game. Then the next free games will be ready.
