For Mafia: The Old Country, the series returns to the origins of its great role models. The Sicily of 1900 is the place “where it all began,” as the trailer so beautifully puts it.

The new setting, far from the big cities, presented a creative challenge for the developers at Hangar 13. In order to make everything as authentic and historically accurate as possible, the team had to study the real Sicily in great detail. Among other things, they used the few photographs from around 1900 that still exist, which were a great inspiration for art director Steve Noakes.

Sicily is also unique in that it combines several architectural styles from different eras. This made it essential for the developers – together with their Italian partner studio Stormind – to visit museums, cities, and rural areas in Sicily. But even small details such as the knives in the game had to be authentic, which is why the team sought advice from local traditional blacksmiths.

Mafia: The Old Country will be released on August 8, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
