Actor Charlie Cox wasn’t expecting so much praise for his work, “Feel Like a Cheat” – One of the main voice actors in Clair Obscur was completely surprised by the praise

Actor Charlie Cox wasn’t expecting so much praise for his work as it was only a small project for him

AlthoughClair Obscur: Expedition 33was by no means made on a triple-A budget, it does feature some really big actors. It’s not just smaller stars such as Jennifer English, known in particular for her role as Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, who appears in Clair Obscur as Maelle

Hollywood celebrities are also among the talented cast of this remarkably good role-playing game. Namely Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Andor, The Batman) as Renoir and Charlie Cox (Marvel’s Daredevil, The Star Trekker) as Gustave.

During a Q&A session at the Washington State Summer Con, however, it has now emerged that the latter was completely surprised by the success and the numerous praise for his work. For Charlie Cox, the act was apparently just a minor performance on the side.

Lots of praise for “little” work

The actor actually traveled to Washington for a panel about Daredevil. Just a few months ago, the remake of the former Netflix hit aired on Disney Plus under the title Daredevil: Born Again.

A video of this panel has surfaced on X, in which Cox is asked about his work in Clair Obscur. In it, the actor confesses to not having played the game and to being very surprised that his work in particular is so praised:

I’m not downplaying this in any way, and it’s so cool that the game is obviously awesome. I’m not a gamer. I have no idea. I haven’t played it. My agent asked me if I wanted to do a voiceover. I was in the studio for maybe four hours?

People keep saying how great it is and “congratulations,” and I feel like a total fraud. But I’m so happy for the company, and I’m happy that it went really well.

Cox completed all his voice recordings in about half a working day and never quite understood what Clair Obscur was all about. So the positive feedback must have caught him unprepared.

Intriguingly, Cox has basically delivered his best work to date, or rather contributed to the most successful project from the critics’ point of view. If you compare the ratings of all his projects on Imdb, for example, Clair Obscur is right at the top of the list with an overall rating of 9.7.

Other popular projects by the actor, such as the Dardevil series from Netflix (8.6) or Downtown Abbey (8.7), are a good way behind.
