Mortal Shell is a classic Souls-like game in many ways. You awaken without much strength or skill in a melancholy but fascinating fantasy world and you have to take every opponent seriously.
A special feature are the four shells that can be discovered and that represent four different play styles. While the shell of the rogue Tiel, for example, gives you a lot of stamina, King Eredim gives you a lot of health points.
Each shell can learn up to ten unique abilities that you buy with the currency of Tar, which fallen enemies leave behind. You combine one of four weapons with the abilities.
The role-playing elements are therefore quite limited, but a lot of emphasis has been placed on combat mechanics. You attack, dodge and use the special ability called harden
In doing so, you turn to stone and block every attack, but the ability must then recharge first. You also need to master the counter.
In our test, the “Dark Souls in short and sweet” got a rating of 80. We liked the varied areas and the great art design. The somewhat predictable story and the lack of secrets in the world were not so well received by us.
