Original news from February 6, 2025: Like every week, the Epic Game Store is giving away a game again that only requires an Epic free account. After it was known for some time that the sea adventure Beyond Blue would be given away this week, there was still a surprise. Because right now you can pick up a second game for free, namely the global strategy game Humankind.
What is Humankind?

(Genre:Turn-based strategy – Release: August 2021 – Standard price: 49.99 €)

Humankind clearly has a great role model, namely the venerable strategy series Civilization You choose a civilization and lead it from the beginning of human history to the present day. In each era, you choose a new culture and take care of the expansion of your cities, the research of new technologies and diplomacy or war in a turn-based fashion.

Nevertheless, the global strategy game is not a copy of Civilization, but also sets its own accents. For example, there is an extended combat system in which you command armies of several units. In addition, terrain and differences in altitude play an important role.

Who is it for? Humankind is clearly aimed at Civilization fans who want to try something new. If you want to control your own empire and have a penchant for history, the Epic gift might be worthwhile for you. However, we also found that Humankind doesn’t come close to its great role model. And on Steam, the game is also controversial. While the release of Humankind was a few years ago, strategy fans are currently focusing on Civilization 7, which has recently become playable for pre-orders. However, the latest installment in the series is causing anger among fans who describe the game as unfinished and encounter numerous problems. You can read about exactly what is causing the displeasure in the article above.
