It’s official: Resident Evil 9 is called Requiem and will be released on February 27, 2026. We summarize everything we already know about the survival horror game.
Capcom really led us on: During the Summer Game Fest 2025 show, the publisher gave the impression that we would have to wait quite a while longer for news about the latest Resi spin-off – and then revealed Part 9 as “One More Thing.” Resident Evil Requiem is the name of the game, and it will be released in spring 2026, on February 27 to be precise.
Here’s a summary of everything we know about Requiem so far:

- Platforms:What can I play Requiem on?
- First-person or third-person perspective
- Characters:Who do we play in Requiem?
- Plot and setting:Back to Racoon City

Release: When will Resident Evil Requiem be released?
The ninth installment in the main series will be released on February 27, 2026, and is titled Resident Evil: Requiem. Incidentally, Capcom is foregoing the numerical gimmick in the title this time around, as seen in Resident EVII: Biohazard and Resident Evil: VIIIage.
Platforms: What can I play Requiem on?
Requiem will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The PC system requirements are not yet known, but we will update this article as soon as we know more.
First-person or third-person perspective
Unlike in Resident Evil: Village, you don’t have to pay extra for the third-person view. Both first-person and third-person perspectives are built into Requiem. You can easily change the view at any time in the menu.
The first-person perspective is recommended, but according to initial previews, the third-person mode also works great. Incidentally, unlike in parts 7 and 8, the cutscenes are not from a first-person perspective.
Characters: Who do we play in Requiem?
In part 9 of the main series, we take on the role ofGrace Ashcroft, a criminal analyst with the FBI. Fans of the series may remember her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft: The reporter was one of eight playable characters in the 2004 (co-op) spin-off Resident Evil Outbreak.
Initial previews reportsections in which Grace is unarmed and only has tools and items with her to solve puzzles. Of course, this does not necessarily mean that she will have to go without weapons for the entire game or that she will not pick up a firearm herself.
Rumors: Even before the announcement, there was speculation that fan favorite Leon S. Kennedy could return and that we would once again play two different characters in part 9. These are just rumors, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Plot and setting: Back to Raccoon City
In Requiem, we finally return to the legendary city that was once home to the pharmaceutical giant Umbrella and where it all began: After Racoon City was overrun by zombies in 1998 and bombed by the government, the ghost town stands empty.
Grace Ashcroft returns decades later to investigate her mother’s death in an abandoned hotel. Not much else is known about the plot at this point.
The announcement trailer also shows the RPD police station, which we already know from part 2 of the series. Initial previews also report a kind of hospital where Grace awakens. This section is strongly reminiscent of the Beneviento house from Resi 8, as Grace is also pursued by a large creature that she cannot defend herself against (Mr. X and Lady Dimitrescu send their regards).
