The creator of the manga has indeed sunk One Piece in the ocean, and for the community, the age of pirates has now virtually begun.

“You want my treasure? You can have it. Go find it! I’ve hidden the greatest treasure in the world somewhere.” – That, or something similar, must have been going through Eiichiro Oda’s mind, the mangaka of the One Piece series, when he was planning his latest prank.

For almost 30 years, fans of the Straw Hat Pirates have been wondering what Gol D. Roger’s great treasure is. Although the series already consists of over 100 volumes and 1,100 chapters, creator Oda has not yet given us any clues as to what the One Piece actually is.

However, there is an answer to this question, and Oda has now thrown it into the sea.

The One Piece – sealed and sunk

For a long time, fans of the manga series and anime lived with the certainty that only Oda knew the secret of One Piece—knowledge that had not even found its way onto paper. But that has now changed, as a video on the official One Piece YouTube channel shows:

In the video, we see Oda writing a note and placing it in the bottom of a small treasure chest, which he locks with a key. It is then expertly sealed in a pressure-resistant sphere and finally transported by ship across the vast ocean.

The crew hands it over to the waves, where it sinks to the bottom of the sea, over 600 meters deep, within half an hour. This means that what is probably the biggest secret in the manga world is now in a hidden place and you can imagine what that means for the community: the age of pirates has begun.

The fans are faster than the pirates in One Piece

Just like when Gol D. Roger was executed, adventurers are now flocking to find the “greatest treasure in the world.” However, this is probably happening a little faster in our world than in the four seas of the manga.

The sinking video has already been meticulously dissected, and after only 13 hours, the first internet detectives already want to know where Oda’s little treasure chest is.

Possible location of the One Piece! (Response to 600m milestone video)

We summarize the information from  Reddit user XilLive :

  • Clue 1: The location must be near the Japanese coast. The colors of the ship indicate the Japanese Coast Guard, and Oda needs permission to simply sink something like this in the sea.
  • Clue 2: The location is southwest of Japan. Based on the position of the sun at the time shown in the video, it can be concluded that the coast is outside the camera’s field of view, behind the ship to the northeast.
  • Hint 3: There are no currents at this location. The video indicates a depth of over 600 meters. At this location, the sediments must not be stirred up by bottom currents, otherwise the One Piece will soon be impossible to find.

The Reddit user therefore suspects that the treasure chest is located in Suruga Bay in Shizuoka Prefecture, not far from Tokyo, where Eichiiro Oda lives.

Incidentally, the community itself is aware that finding the chest comes with a great deal of responsibility. Some fans now fear that this action will spoil the story for them, even though the chance of this happening is negligible. Some are now (jokingly?) hatching a plan to find the chest and then destroy it.

However, it is still too early to say whether the assumption about Suruga Bay is actually correct. To do so, the video material would first have to be genuine and not just produced for entertainment purposes. If you want to check this out, at least you now know roughly where to dive.
