Wizards of the Coast has finally unveiled the lineup for new D&D books to be released in 2026. For the first time, the role-playing game will use a season model.

D&D is getting closer and closer to video games. We recently told you why Dungeons & Dragons is becoming increasingly digitized. But when it comes to presenting new content, publisher Wizards of the Coast is now also drawing heavily on strategies commonly used in video games.

D&D recently unveiled a complete roadmap for 2026, which includes the new books for that year. What’s new here is that D&D is now thinking thematically and grouping related books into a season. A total of three seasons were unveiled for 2026. The complete roadmap can be viewed here:

In addition to new books that are part of the seasons, the roadmap also includes various other information about the D&D year 2026. For example, what new features the D&D Beyond online platform will receive, what events fans can look forward to, and what partner content is coming up soon.

But for now, we’re focusing on the new seasons and the new books.

1. Season of Horror

  • Season start: April 13
  • Season end: June 16
  • New books:
    • Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

The first DnD season of 2026 kicks off with one of the most popular settings in the multiverse. With Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, we return to a universe that focuses primarily on gothic horror, vampires, and werewolves.

The new book aims to further deepen the world and offers new subclasses, backgrounds, and species for your game. The book will be released on June 16 and costs around 60 euros, but there is already some thematically appropriate content available before that. This includes a Tarokka card deck, a game master screen, and a map pack.

2. Season of Magic

  • Season start: July
  • Season end: September
  • New books:
    • Arcana Unleashed
    • Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall

The second season of the year is all about powerful magic in every form. Arcana Unleashed is a book that allows you to create powerful magical characters. It also includes a new system for magical items that improve along with your hero.

The second book planned for the Magic Season is Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall. This is an adventure book based on the rules from the expansion book. It is said to be about red mages.

3. Season of Champions

  • Season start: In fall
  • Season end: In winter
  • New books: Unknown

Nothing is known about the Season of Champions yet. So we don’t know which books will be released towards the end of the year, nor how many there will be. The theme also seems quite vague and could mean anything. Perhaps the focus here will be on fighter characters. Wizards of the Coast has a lot planned for 2026. Incidentally, it’s no big surprise that D&D is becoming more and more oriented towards video games. Since 2025, the entire D&D franchise has been headed by Dan Ayoub. He has his roots in the gaming industry and was involved in the Halo series, for example.
