Dredge lets you slip into the role of a fisherman who only wants to do his job. But terrible secrets lurk beneath the ocean”s surface.

Picturesque sunsets, fascinating landscapes and pretty little islands: At first glance, Dredge looks like a relaxed fishing adventure in which we land all kinds of sea creatures, sell our catch and use the proceeds to improve our boat. But it soon becomes clear that our archipelago also hides dark secrets and we are not safe at sea.

Find out what dangers lurk beneath the surface of the water and how the newly announced adventure game plays here. In addition to Dredge, there were many other announcements during the gamescom week.

Some secrets are better left unexplored

Moving pictures are best for a first impression. In the trailer of Dredge, we first see the idyllic island worlds, but then also eerie ruins and huge monsters:

But how does the eerie adventure game work anyway? The developers have already revealed some information on Steam. Dredge is supposed to offer the following features:

Exploration: As a fisherman, we navigate an archipelago consisting of several islands. We probably spend most of our time at sea and discover all kinds of places. We can also explore the islands themselves and discover animals, inhabitants and stories there.

However, we don”t go ashore with a character, but click through scenes and dialogues, while the events are described with texts and pictures:

Fishing and research: We don”t yet see in trailers and pictures how exactly fishing works. Apparently we first have to find fish deposits and then cast nets, fishing rods or traps. We can catch over 100 different sea creatures this way.

We then sell our booty at harbours. There we also repair our ship and buy better equipment. But we also have to or can unlock new engines, nets or fishing rods through research.

Quests: However, we don”t just go in search of particularly tasty fish, but also complete quests for various islanders. These are probably also the ones that make us search for mysterious relics and explore eerie ruins:

(The history of the region and its ruins probably also plays a big part in the story of Dredge.)

Monsters and dangerous waters: The exploration and fishing trips are not without danger. For at night, huge monsters awaken in the depths, hunting for our boat and also sinking it if we can”t escape them. But the creatures are not the only danger. We also have to navigate skilfully so as not to run into rocks or damage our boat.

(I wonder if we should mess with this monster?)

Dredge is scheduled for release on Steam and for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. In October 2022, a (free demo) will also be unlocked for you to try out on Valve”s platform.

What do you think of Dredge? Would you like to go on a spooky boat tour and discover the dark history of the archipelago? Or is there a reason why the game doesn”t appeal to you? Feel free to write your opinion in the comments!
