When horror remains after the credits roll

Just a few days before the official release, the first reviews of “Silent Hill f” are already pouring in. After years of silence, Konami and NeoBards Entertainment are venturing back into the foggy horror – and critics are thrilled.

The atmosphere in particular clearly sets it apart from its predecessors. Instead of relying on classic shock moments, the game builds on a finely woven web of psychological pressure, a dark mood, and a narrative style that gets under your skin. Alex, a tester for the trade press, sums it up in his conclusion: “Not exceptionally scary and playing on familiar ground, but disturbing and powerfully resonant.”

This response is also reflected in the ratings. According to Metacritic, “Silent Hill f” currently has an impressive average rating of 86 points after 60 reviews – a strong signal for a franchise that has long been in the shadows.

A bold new beginning in 1960s Japan

The plot takes players to 1960s Japan – a setting that adds a whole new dimension to the well-known franchise. Noisy Pixel praises this approach: “Silent Hill is a terrifyingly elegant return to the franchise’s old form, combining Ryukishi07’s signature psychological storytelling with a hauntingly atmospheric setting.”

The mix of traditional survival horror mechanics and intense character work in particular is causing quite a stir. GameSpot calls the result “a visual spectacle, a masterpiece of psychological horror, a work of narrative brilliance.” NeoBards has not only built on the strengths of the series, but also dared to experiment in ways that have a lasting impact on the gaming experience.

But the new beginning also requires some getting used to. Push Square warns that hardcore fans will have to accept some breaks with tradition: combat plays a greater role, and technical issues cannot be completely overlooked. Nevertheless, the conclusion is positive: “Silent Hill f takes the series in a new direction, which largely pays off. Accept it for what it is, and you’ll have one of the most intense PS5 experiences.“

One thing is certain: with ”Silent Hill f,” the cult series not only gets a new chapter—it has impressively played its way back into the horror upper house.
