Those familiar with Ghostrunner won”t just get more of the same in the second part. Speeding through vast areas on a motorbike? That”s new!

Ghostrunner is a favourite with the press and the public. Fast parkour action, running along walls, fierce ninja moves and bloody melee fights characterise the 2020 game. The successor Ghostrunner 2 is not too long in coming, the release is scheduled for 2023.

Now you can get your own first impression with a colourful bouquet of gameplay. One major innovation is immediately noticeable: Whereas in the first part you had to fight your way through a huge cyberpunk complex on foot, you can now ride a motorbike over extensive streets.

How Ghostrunner 2 plays

You might want to take a look at the game yourself first. You can watch the aforementioned gameplay trailer here:

The familiar elements make an appearance again: You move incredibly nimbly through the levels, dismembering nasty enemies with your futuristic katana, using the environment for wallruns, lightning-fast dodges, and sliding down sloping surfaces on your butt.

Along the way, you”ll improve your skills, develop your character and learn new moves. You”ll also need them when you encounter one of the particularly tricky bosses. Ghostrunner is considered an extremely fast and difficult game to master, which requires good reflexes and a lot of practice. According to the material so far and the Steam page, this should not change, apart from one thing.

The big news: Bikes! The new motorbike levels almost seem like something from another game. Here, your skills as a rider are to be put to the test as you speed along winding highways between skyscraper canyons. The racing levels promise something of a change from everyday ninja life.

What else is important?

When and where will the game be released? Ghostrunner 2 is scheduled for release sometime in 2023, both on Steam and the Epic Store as well as DRM-free on GOG. In addition, the game is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In our review of the predecessor, you can take another look at whether the breathless gameplay could be your pair of shoes. GameStar writer Alex Ney grimly bit his way through the action and came to a very favourable conclusion in the end.

Are you looking forward to Ghostrunner 2? Did you play the first part at all or did you despair of the sheer pace of the battles? Feel free to let us know your experiences in the comments.
