Critical Role’s current D&D campaign is still full of unsolved mysteries. One of them revolves around the class of Wicander Halovar.

Five episodes in, fans of Critical Role have already seen the popular team playing Dungeons & Dragons in a completely new world with brand new characters. That also means that there are still plenty of unanswered questions swirling around in viewers’ heads.

Many of them naturally have to do with the world and the story, but some also relate to the characters of the players. Quite a bit has already been revealed, such as the origin of Bolaire’s mask. But right now, people are mainly puzzling over what class Wicander Halovar actually has.

In the current fifth episode, an event has once again sparked speculation. We’ve gathered all the current theories and findings here.

Spoiler alert! This article discusses some events from the first five episodes of Critical Role Campaign 4.

Fans of Critical Role have already been able to experience five episodes of the popular team playing Dungeons & Dragons in a completely new world with brand new characters. This also means that there are still plenty of unanswered questions currently swirling around in viewers’ heads.

Many of these questions naturally have to do with the world and the story, but some also concern the characters of the players. Some things have already been revealed, such as the origin of Bolaire’s mask. But right now, people are mainly wondering what class Wicander Halovar actually has.

In the current fifth episode, an event has once again sparked speculation. We’ve gathered all the current theories and insights here.

Spoiler alert! In this article, we discuss some events from the first five episodes of Critical Role Campaign 4.

The first skepticism: That’s not a cleric!

At the beginning of Campaign 4, the various characters were introduced with their different classes. Sam Riegel’s character, Wicander Halovar, is supposed to be a cleric. That alone was exciting, as there are no longer any living gods in the new fantasy world of the current campaign.

Even more skepticism in episode 1 when we got a glimpse of Wicander’s attributes.& nbsp;Wicander has a Wisdom score of 10, which in his case manifests itself in a certain unworldly, even elitist naivety.

Regardless of the role-playing background, Wisdom 10 is pathetic for a cleric in the current D&D rules.
This attribute is used by the class to cast spells, making Wisdom extremely important for them.

The assumption: This is a wizard!

What was striking, however, was that Wicander has considerable charisma with a value of 18. Charisma is used by classes such as bards, paladins, warlocks, and wizards for their magic. So it seems reasonable to assume that Wicander actually belongs to one of these classes – although we can rule out bard or paladin right away based on the character concept.

In Episode 3, there was a big revelation that points more toward wizard. It was revealed that Wicander’s magical power does not actually come from any god. Instead, his family taps the blood of an angel and has thus developed magical potential. Wicander’s grandmother was even able to use the blood to bring Wicander’s father into the world with the help of a wish spell.
She accordingly refers to the angel as Wicander’s “grandfather.”

This sounds as if Wicander actually has magical blood from birth, which explains his powers and fits in with the wizard class.

And what is the subclass?

That seemed to settle the matter. It was assumed that Wicander was in fact a Divinve Soul Sorcerer—a wizard with clerical spells.& nbsp;In Episode 5
, however, one of Wicander’s abilities caused confusion again.

No one knows exactly what ability this is. Divine Soul Sorcerers can’t do anything like that … Clockwork Soul Sorcerers, on the other hand, can! This class was introduced in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and revolves around the power of order.

Clockwork Sorcerers can negate advantage or disadvantage on a dice roll a few times per day with an ability starting at level 1. Thematically, Divine Soul would be more appropriate, but Clockwork now seems possible as well.

Is everything clear now?

However, we still don’t know for sure which subclass Wicander has. Especially since Critical Role recently changed many class names on their Beacon website. Instead of the usual D&D names, the team suddenly started using their own terms. A warlock is now a Pact Magus, a druid is a Wild Mage, and a ranger is a Tracker.

Noteworthy: Wicander is referred to as a Prodigy Mage on the website – this fits with the wizard assumption, as the self-confessed (half) wizard Azune also has this class designation.

However, these unique class designations also indicate that Critical Role is increasingly using modified rules. They have announced that they will be using their own system, Daggerheart, for the fourth campaign, D&D 2024 – but with adjustments.

Especially with subclasses, it’s very possible that we’ll see some completely different versions and that Wicander is neither a Divine Soul Sorcerer nor a Clockwork Soul Sorcerer.

Oh, and by the way, many also doubt that Wicander is even human. So there are still many mysteries to solve!
