The production of video games is more expensive than ever. Naturally, that’s reflected in the purchase price. So far, Capcom has held back on price increases, to be sure. But President Haruhiro Tsujimoto seems to want to change that.

High-end graphics resolution, fascinating world building and over a hundred hours of gameplay – the current gaming industry creates spectacular gaming experiences. Accordingly, the production just behind the scenes of AAA games turns out to be very costly.

While most publishers have raised their prices accordingly, Capcom has held back comparatively so far. However, according to president Haruhiro Tsujimoto, that should change soon. In a interview) at the Tokyo Game Show, the head of the Japanese game company also (opinionated on this (topic).

Development costs are 100 times higher than in the NES days.[…] We need to raise wages to be attractive to talented people. Since wages are going up everywhere in the industry, I think it’s a healthy form of business if we raise prices per unit sold.

But what kind of price increases can we expect? After all, Resident Evil 4 already costs 60 (PC) or 70 euros (PS5), depending on the platform. Even if an appropriate remuneration of the production teams is more than important, the wallets of the gamer are also tightening.
That’s why I’m looking at the release of Capcom’s long-awaited title Pragmata with some concern, wondering how much the game will cost when it’s supposedly released next year.
