Lego has announced a new Batman adventure called Legacy of the Dark Knight, and its gameplay is very reminiscent of the Arkham games.
A new Lego Batman game was unveiled at the gamescom Opening Night Live Show: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The first gameplay footage has now been released, and it is strikingly similar to the popular Arkham trilogy from Rocksteady Studios. This has caused many people to eagerly await an Arkham game that isn’t actually one.
The first Lego Batman game in over 10 years
What it’s about: Legacy of the Dark Knight tells various well-known Batman stories from decades of comics, series, and movies. What makes it special is that all the characters and vehicles, as well as most of the environment, are made of Lego bricks. Included are Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and characters that previously only existed in the comics.
As one of many characters from the Batman universe, you explore open Gotham or traverse closed areas and beat up enemies, destroy buildings, collect bricks, and solve puzzles.
The reveal trailer already shows that you can look forward to numerous references and the slapstick humor that Lego games are known for.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is scheduled for release in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
I can’t wait to play Lego Batman: Arkham Bricks
The gameplay is generating a lot of excitement on the internet. Numerous fans are reminded of the legendary Arkham games by Rocksteady by the combat and some other elements, and are now hoping that the magic of the trilogy will be revived. BlueSky user Ross Tweets Games has even renamed the game appropriately:
I can’t believe a Lego game has got me this excited again. Damn, I can’t wait to play Lego Batman: Arkham Bricks.
The voices on Reddit sound similar. For example, maiklg writes:
That looks like Batman Arkham Lego Edition. It even has the same explosive spray!
The Reddit user erevanx444 adds that it will also feature the familiar detective view.
It looks like Arkham, but… : Despite the similarities, the important differences should not be overlooked. Not only is the Lego game much less serious, but telling a proper, coherent story also plays a secondary role. The visuals also play a major role, creating a completely different atmosphere in places compared to the Arkham series. So far, there have been three Lego Batman games, released between 2008 and 2014. The first two spin-offs are still considered two of the best Lego titles ever. In 2018, another game featuring Batman was released, DC Super Villains.
