Ubisoft has a big surprise in store: after almost two years, the publisher is releasing an update for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora that could turn things upside down. The expansion is set to be released on December 5, 2025– introducing two features that fans have been hoping for for a long time. While the game has only been available from a first-person perspective up to now, the update will introduce a third-person option for the first time. And that’s not all: a comprehensive New Game Plus mode is also included.

A new perspective for Pandora: Avatar gets what many have been asking for

The third-person perspective was a frequently requested feature in the community. Many players wanted to not only hear their Na’vi, but also see them—in battle, riding through dense jungles, or gliding over floating rocks.Ubisoft has clearly taken this feedback seriously and, according to its own statements, is investing a lot of development time in its implementation. Animations, controls, and even the sound design have been reworked so that the change in perspective doesn’t just feel good visually.

The result promises more than just a better view of your own character. The new view is even intended to increase immersion, as you dive deeper into the life of a Na’vi while taking in more of Pandora’s rich details. An option to switch between first-person and shoulder camera views at any time will further customize the gaming experience.
A real game changer for veterans and new players alike.

This change takes the game to a new level

Alongside the change in perspective, a brand new New Game+ mode is being introduced, which should significantly increase replay value. Players can replay the entire story campaign – but this time with all the weapons, equipment, and abilities they unlocked in their first playthrough. To keep the challenge alive, enemies will be stronger and progress will be expanded with additional paths and powerful equipment.

Particularly interesting: Ubisoft is also expanding the skill system with the update. An additional talent tree will allow experienced players to try out new play styles. This development aims to make Pandora not only more beautiful, but also more tactically challenging. Combined with the third-person view, the adventure should feel completely new – even for those who have already played through it once.

It’s probably no coincidence that this update is being released in December. Just two weeks later, Avatar: Fire and Ash, the next movie from James Cameron, will hit theaters. Ubisoft is cleverly using the timing to capitalize on the renewed interest in Pandora while drawing attention to the game.

With previous expansions such as The Sky Breaker and Secrets of the Spires, Ubisoft had already proven that the studio is committed to long-term support.
But this December update could actually be the most important step since its release – and finally give Frontiers of Pandora what many players have wanted from the beginning: the feeling of really being part of this fascinating world.
