“Randy Pitchford, take note”: One of the most anticipated Steam shooters looks better than Borderlands 4 and runs on pretty much any piece of junk, to put it bluntly.

The upcoming extraction shooter Arc Raiders from Embark Studios, the creators of the surprise hit The Finals, has quickly become one of the most wanted games on Steam. This is likely due in part to the stunningly beautiful game world, which looks good enough to eat thanks to Unreal Engine 5.

Normally, this means only one thing for you: It may be time for expensive hardware upgrades. But with Arc Raiders, everything is different.

The recently released final system requirements are so surprisingly low that they are causing quite a stir on Reddit and other sites (and a few digs at Borderlands 4).

What your PC needs to run Arc Raiders

Many feared that the stunning graphics shown would only run smoothly with high-end components – after all, UE5 is often cited as the main reason for any hardware requirements. However, the official specifications paint a completely different picture and make the shooter playable for almost everyone.

Here is an overview of the official system requirements for 60 FPS:

Minimum requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit) or higher
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
  • Memory: 12.0 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 580, or Intel Arc A380

Recommended requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit) or higher
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • Memory: 16.0 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc B570

The minimum requirements are particularly noteworthy: a Geforce GTX 1050 Ti, which is now nine years old and was already available at an absolute budget price of around 150 euros at the time.

The fact that a brand-new UE5 title is supposed to run on such outdated hardware is a clear statement from the developers.

“Finally, a studio that can optimize its game”

As expected, the reactions from the community have been overwhelmingly positive. TheOneAndOnlySenti sums up the mood of many players: “Finally, a developer studio that knows how to optimize its damn game” – and this opinion is echoed in numerous discussions.

Arc Raiders is even being cited as counterevidence to the often-criticized performance of Unreal Engine 5. So Digedag writes on Reddit:

“This will be the game I point to whenever someone blames UE5 for performance issues.”

The performance is also praised in comparison to other studios and games, which is reflected in humorous but pointed comments such as “Randy Bitchford, please take notes on how to optimize a game.” culminates.

However, there are also critical voicesOne user notes that the good performance could also be due to the fact that Arc Raiders may not rely on the most prominent UE5 features such as Nanite or Lumen.
