Around a week and a half after La Quimera was unexpectedly postponed shortly before release, the shooter has now been released on Steam in Early Access. The reviews paint a clear picture.
La Quimera, the shooter from former Kiev Metro developers Reburn, was supposed to be released on April 25. But that didn’t happen. On the day the game was supposed to be released, it was quietly and indefinitely postponed –while we were already busy testing it.
Then, a few days ago, it was announced that there are no plans for a final release for the time being and that La Quimera will instead be launched in Early Access. You can find the whole bizarre story surrounding the canceled test and the reasons for the postponement linked below. In short, however, La Quimera is simply unfinished and…technically in poor condition.
Now, the game has surprisingly launched on Steam in Early Access and, unsurprisingly, is not particularly well received by players. Around 60 percent of reviews for the shooter are negative

1:48La Quimera: The trailer for the new sci-fi shooter from the makers of Metro shows off the futuristic gunplay
Short and clunky
On the one hand, the comments criticize the brevity of the campaign. Instead of the five hours initially promised, it only lasts two to three hours and does not resolve any of the storylines that are introduced. For a price of 30 euros, there is far too little content on offer; the plot is also confusing and incomprehensible.
The technical execution is also criticized. The performance fluctuates greatly, and the graphics look far less impressive than in the trailer released in advance. Instead, there are frequent display errors – you can see a selection of them here.
The confusing levels and enemy behavior also cause frustration. It is often unclear where you are being attacked from. La Quimera does not yet have a slider to adjust the field of view (FOV).
On the positive side, reviewers highlight the crisp gunplay and futuristic setting with its exosuits. Overall, however, there is widespread agreement in the community that La Quimera still needs a lot of work before it can be recommended without reservation.
The development team has already announced that this work will be done. With the switch to the early access model, developer Reburn announced that it not only wants to improve the game technically, but also expand the campaign with new story chapters in the future. However, there is no exact timeline for this content yet. At the moment, the focus is likely to be on technical fixes.
