There’s no exact release date yet for Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider series. However, the first details about the cast have now been revealed. Fans can also look forward to seeing some familiar characters.
Tomb Raider is currently very popular. Just a few weeks ago, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games announced two new games featuring the iconic archaeologist during the Game Awards, and now there is also a whole host of new information about the upcoming series adaptation of Lara Croft’s adventures.
In an interview with ScreenRant a few days ago that she has been training hard for the series for over a year in order to embody a believable version of Lara Croft. The British actress is known for her roles as Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones) and Jean Grey from the X-Men film Dark Phoenix, among others.
I can’t say much about it yet, but my preparations began in February [2025]. I’ve been training for almost a year now, and we start filming in January. I’m very excited, but I feel well prepared and consider myself very lucky to have such a good relationship with Amazon. I’m looking forward to the world seeing what we’re doing with Lara and Tomb Raider; I think it’s going to be something special.

But it’s not just Lara actress Sophie Turner’s training plan that has been updated; the rest of the cast has finally been confirmed. The cast includes some real acting heavyweights, such as Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien).
Fans of the Tomb Raider games can also look forward to the return of some familiar characters in the form of Zip and Winston. We have listed the actors known so far below:
- Martin Bobb-Semple plays Zip, Lara Croft’s long-time technical support and friend.
- Jason Isaacs is Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle.
- Bill Paterson will be seen as Winston, the Croft family’s longtime butler.
- August Wittgenstein plays Lukas, a looter who shares a past with Lara.
- Sigourney Weaver is Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious woman who wants to use Lara’s talents to her advantage.
- Jack Bannon plays Gerry, Lara’s personal pilot and snack collector.
- John Heffernan is David, an exhausted government official who finds himself in Lara’s unusual world.
- Celia Imrie is Francine, head of the British Museum’s development department.
- Paterson Joseph plays Thomas Warner, a high-ranking government official.
- Sasha Luss will be seen as Sasha, an ambitious new adversary of Lara’s.
- Juliette Motamed plays Georgia, a strict curator at the British Museum who is dedicated to the proper preservation of history.
The series is created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). The showrunner and writer has loved Tomb Raider since childhood. Announcing the cast, she said:
Tomb Raider features a host of iconic characters. I’m thrilled to be able to bring some of my personal and fan favorites to the screen, while also introducing a few cheeky new characters. This cast is my absolute dream!

Lead actress Sophie Turner also says she has been a long-time fan of Lara Croft and her adventures. However, she will only be taking on the role in the upcoming series, not in the two newly announced games, Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Legacy of Atlantis. That’s because the archaeologist is voiced by British actress Alix Wilton Regan. Alongside Sophie Turner, Lara Croft has previously been played on the big screen by fellow actresses Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. In the Tomb Raider games, Camilla Luddington, Keeley Hawes, and Minnie Driver have previously lent their voices to the character.
A specific start date for the Amazon series has not yet been announced. However, as filming is set to begin this month, a release in 2027 seems likely.
