Stormind Games and Saber Interactive have released a new developer diary for A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. The video, which lasts just under three minutes, introduces the horror game’s stealth gameplay.

From other video games with stealth elements, we know that only those who can pass unseen by enemies will survive. However, these “traditional” stealth mechanics cannot be applied to A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead.

Our supernatural opponents are blind – so visual stimuli are completely irrelevant. Instead, they rely on their hearing. It is therefore important that you move as quietly as possible. The recently released video on sound design already provided deeper insights into this.

The 1 ×1 for noise avoidance

To help you with this, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead equips you with two tools: a flashlight and a phonometer. The flashlight obviously won’t help you with noise cancellation. But you can use it to illuminate dark corners and thus avoid potential noise sources.
In contrast, the phonometer uses small bars to show you the volume. The left display shows the ambient noise, while the right display shows the noise you are making.

So you can, for example, make louder noises yourself in noisy environments. This is especially useful when you have to use loud objects or mechanisms. However, since there will only be a few of these sound effects, you will have to work with distractions. This gameplay mechanic of A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead leaves room for environmental puzzles and nerve-wracking moments.
