La Divina Commedia is based on Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, similar to the 2010 hack ‘n’ slash game.

If you’re a PC gamer who was annoyed in 2010 that you couldn’t play Dante’s Inferno, now’s the time to pay attention. The hack ‘n’ slash game based on the first part of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy was only released on consoles back then.

However, a new interpretation of the epic story was announced at gamescom during Opening Night Live, which you will be able to play on PC. This time, it will be an action role-playing game called La Divina Commedia.

“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”

Despite its name, The Divine Comedy is not really funny – quite the opposite, in fact. Comedy here means that it is not a tragedy and that the hero of the story can hope for a happy ending.

But first he has to fight his way through all kinds of wickedness and misfortune. In La Divina Commedia (Steam link), the world is plunged into chaos and you have been sent straight to hell. But the search for a way out won’t be handed to you on a silver platter—after all, we are in the “Inferno” part of the epic.

Enemies that become increasingly powerful stand in your way, and you have only one option: loot and level up. You have access to different weapon classes that you can gradually upgrade. Meanwhile, a sin system determines your character’s alignment.

In the original material, Inferno is divided into seven different levels. And what’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of hell and the number seven? That’s right! The deadly sins. Each level is reserved for one of these deadly sins.

In La Divina Commedia, however, they not only shape the world around you, but also your abilities. In procedurally generated dungeons, different loot and atrocities await you at every turn. Once you’ve survived these, you can use your collected resources to craft new weapons and armor.

La Divina Commedia is the second major soulslike project from Jyamma Games. Their first attempt, Enotria: The Last Song, already incorporated Italian culture and folklore into the game. In contrast to the sun-drenched cities, however, the new title takes a much darker direction.

The release date for La Divina Commedia has not yet been announced. It was initially announced for PC.
