A mini download for Oblivion Remastered makes exploring so much more enjoyable

With over 200 locations to explore, including caves, fortresses, and Ayleid ruins, it’s easy to lose track of where you are in Oblivion Remastered. But a small mod prevents that from happening.

Anyone traveling the roads of Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered will stumble across fortresses, caves, or bandit camps every few meters. In total, there are over 200 locations waiting to be discovered and explored.

The longer we play, the easier it is to lose track of where we’ve already been. This is because there is no indication on the map as to whether we have already explored a location extensively. However, a mod now provides exactly this feature.

Dungeons to check off

The mod developed by rebeccathedragonborn called Map Icon Completion Markers is basically very simple. Once we’ve installed it, we just open the world map and hold down Shift while hovering the mouse pointer over the icon of a location we’ve already explored.

The corresponding icon then becomes transparent, making it stand out clearly from other locations. Once we have finished exploring a location, we can mark it and don’t have to check whether we have already been there or just activated the fast travel point.

We have already installed the mod ourselves and tested it briefly: At least for us, it works without any problems, but other players have reported isolated issues such as crashes. If you experience crashes after installation, you can fix this by installing an earlier version (1.03) or simply removing the mod.

How to install the mod

If you want to try the mod yourself, we’ll briefly explain everything you need to know. The easiest way to install it is to first download a mod manager such as Vortex The program moves all files to the desired location and allows you to enable and disable the mod as you wish. Of course, manual installation is also possible.

You must follow these steps in any case:

  1. Download UE4SS This is a small tool that enables certain mod functions and is an essential prerequisite for the map marker mod.
    • Installation on Steam: Right-click on Oblivion Remastered in your game list in Steam. Select Manage and then Browse local files From this folder, navigate to OblivionRemastered\Binaries\Win64 Unzip the zip file you downloaded from the mod page into this folder.
    • Installation in Game Pass: Right-click Oblivion Remastered in your game list in the Xbox app. Click on Manage, then on the Files tab, and then on Browse In the game folder, navigate to OblivionRemastered\Binaries\WinGDK Extract the zip file you downloaded from the mod page into this folder.
  2. Download Map Icon Completion Markers
  3. Open the Oblivion Remastered installation folder again and navigate to OblivionRemastered\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods Unzip the folder MapIconCompletionMarkerMod here.

That’s it, the mod should now work properly. If you encounter any problems, please read the description and posts on the mod page to make sure you haven’t made a mistake.

While almost 3,000 mods have already been released for Oblivion Remastered, an official patch is still pending. Although the developers have already collected suggestions for improvements from players, there has been no announcement yet as to which of these will be implemented and when.
