Romanian politician Nicolae Ștefănuță has signed the petition himself and is showing solidarity with the players. However, they are not only taking this gesture positively.
There is more and more movement in the EU citizens’ initiative Stop Killing Games, which has stalled in the meantime. After the major hurdle of one million signatures was recently overcome, the request for permanent access to purchased games is now moving to the EU Parliament, where the initiators of the petition will be allowed to address the plenary session.
The movement has already found at least one important supporter from the political body. Romanian politician Nicolae Ștefănuță has raised his voice for Stop Killing Games.
Have signed it myself and will continue to support it in the future
Nicolae Ștefănuță is not just anyone, but currently the Vice-President of the EU Parliament. His solidarity with the Stop Killing Games movement is now making waves in the media.
In the social networks Ștefănuță makes no secret of his position on video games and their long-term care as a politician and private citizen:
I stand with the people who have launched this citizens’ initiative. I have signed it myself and will continue to support it in the future. Once a game is sold, it belongs to the customer, not the company.

Not only positive reactions
Of course, the politician receives a lot of applause and positive comments under the posts. Many video game fans are happy to know that they have such an important voice on their side in this matter.

The bro is so down to earth 🏆(source)
He’s probably a gamer and finally has a chance to please him and other gamers.(Source)
However, there are also negative voices. It’s hardly surprising given the ubiquitous disenchantment with politics: many gamers accuse Nicolae Ștefănuță of cheap populism. Along the lines of: he just wants good PR for himself.
What a simple slam dunk for some PR 😂(source)
Politicians just like easy wins(source)
Funny that he’s [speaking out for it now] after [the whole thing] has become popular and has already been successful. Very brave… lmao(Quelle)
Finally, a comment to make you smile (or cry, depending on your heat):
When the Vice President of the European Parliament is more upset about game servers being shut down than gas prices, you know it’s personal.
How do you feel about the high-ranking politician’s endorsement of Stop Killing Games? Do you expect other political voices to join in, or will this remain an isolated incident?
