Sonic the Hedgehog has been murdered, but who did it? An April Fool”s joke of a special kind from Sega sends you off to investigate that question – for several hours.
Actually, it”s just an April Fool”s joke – but an extremely successful one: Sega has released a free game on (Steam with The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog) with about two to three hours of gameplay. In it, they literally murder one of their most famous heroes, Sonic
Your task is to solve the mystery of the blue hedgehog”s death aboard the Mirage Express in the style of a visual novel. You can get a first impression of this by watching the trailer:
Story premise: The story starts with Amy Rose”s birthday. To celebrate, she has invited her friends to a murder mystery party on the Mirage Express. When Sonic the Hedgehog becomes a victim of the game, the party guests try to solve the mystery together. But is that all? Maybe there”s more to it than a harmless game!
Gameplay: You conduct dialogues, solve puzzles, hop through Sonic-typical mini-games and click through hand-painted backgrounds with simple, yet lovingly animated characters from the Sonic universe.
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is free to download on Steam.
And while Sega remains vague here, Sonic is obviously not done as a hero, let alone a brand for the future.
This game is not from Sonic Team, but in my mind, anything can be canon!
