If you like monkeys, balloons, or just good strategy, the Epic Games Store is the place to be this week.

While Epic’s game giveaways were a bit of a mess over the holidays, things are back to normal now in the new year. That means every Thursday, there will be at least one new game available for free. This week, you can get Bloons TD 6, which is actually one of the best games in the tower defense genre. Free at Epic: Bloons TD 6.

(Genre: Strategy game – Developer: Ninja Kiwi – Release: December 18, 2018)

Bloons TD 6 belongs to the classic type of tower defense games. In each level, waves of enemies follow a set path that leads to your base.

Along this path, you place various towers that automatically shoot at the enemies (in this case, balloons). If an enemy reaches your base, it takes damage. The goal of the game is to survive all waves.

Each of the 25 different towers, represented by monkeys, has three different upgrade paths. This is where the tactical depth of the game comes in.

The diverse monkeys only work really well when they interact with each other. For example, one of them freezes enemies and creates areas where attackers can pile up and monkeys with area damage can unleash their full potential.

One upgrade path for the wizard monkey, for example, ensures that camouflaged balloons are revealed. For each level, the right decision must be made as to which monkeys to build with the limited resources and where to place them.

In addition to a story mode and various challenges, Bloons TD 6 also has a four-player co-op variant.

On Steam, the game has 97 percent positive reviews. A total of over 330,000 Steam users have submitted a review so far, so the numbers are certainly meaningful.

If you’re generally into the tower defense genre, Bloons TD 6 is a good choice. Provided, of course, that you like the colorful comic book look with monkeys and balloons. However, the game has a real-money store where you can purchase skins and other items that speed up your progress in the game.
