CoD Black Ops 7 actually promised only matching skins, but now there are Fallout operators and no one is really shocked.

Who cares about yesterday’s chatter? In the new Fallout event, you get power armor, Lucy, Maximus, and the Ghoul.

Those haters out there again. No sooner had Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 announced a major new collaboration with Amazon’s Fallout series than the controversy began again. The thumbs-down rate on the YouTube trailer is over 30 percent, and even on Reddit many frustrated fans are complaining.

“I don’t want something like this in CoD, but in Fortnite,” writes user Traditional_Dot_1215. MGfreak emphasizes this: “Call of Duty has simply become an advertising space; anyone who pays enough can put their own franchise in there.”

The fact that you can suddenly run around in-game as Lucy, Ghoul, or in power armor is too crazy for people.

This criticism is nonsense, of course.

Yes, strictly speaking, the Treyarch devs promised to do better after the harsh criticism of the silly Beavis and Butt-Head skins from Black Ops 6. And just as strictly speaking, those responsible may have said something like:

We know there has been a lot of discussion lately about the identity of Call of Duty. Some of you have said that we have strayed from what Call of Duty was originally about: immersive, intense, brutal, and in many ways down-to-earth. This feedback hits home and we take it seriously. We hear you. Black Ops 7 must feel authentically like Call of Duty and its setting.

But what the haters don’t understand is that the developers are using the stylistic device of elliptical omission here. What they really meant was: Black Ops 7 must feel authentically like Call of Duty and its setting in the first three weeks after release. After that, things will look different.

This is exactly the strategy that CoD studios have been pursuing for years. Besides, Black Ops 7 and Fallout have a lot in common. For example, um… both are set in the future and both franchises feature firearms. So there you go.

What’s in store for the new Fallout event? But joking aside, this Fallout event is much more extensive than it was a few years ago with Modern Warfare 3. Instead of just slapping expensive Fallout skins on standard operators, there are now various Fallout-specific modes that you can try out for free.

  • In regular multiplayer, there is the new Ghoul Mode, a variant of Infected in which the ghouls try to infect the normal players until, ideally, every enemy has mutated into a ghoul.
  • Also in regular multiplayer, you’ll find the mode S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Mayhem: Here, defeated enemies drop power-ups that give you more health or faster reload speed, for example. However, you’ll need to collect RAD-Aways at the same time to keep your radiation levels from rising too high.
  • In the endgame co-op, you can expect the Deathclaw Hunt: Deathclaws from Fallout are running around somewhere on the map and you have to blow them up. Ideally, you should have a decent combat rating of 45+.
  • In Zombies, you can try out the limited-time new Project R.A.D.S. mode, a survival variant with radiation and all kinds of other Fallout gimmicks.
  • There is a seasonally adapted variant of Nuketown called Vault Town.
  • Warzone is getting the limited-time mode Power Armor Royale. Teams of three land in the zone, have to recharge their armor core with missions, and can then step into powerful power armor anywhere on the map.

In addition, there are of course various events, rewards, and so on, including a limited-time mini battle pass, the premium version of which costs around 10 euros.

Incidentally, there are also many comments saying that the new skins are cool – it’s not as if the entire community is unanimously against such bundles.

The event lasts until around the end of January 2026, so you have plenty of time to try out all the stuff. But tell us, what do you think of the Fallout event? Are you excited? Or not so much?
