OpenAI could release GPT-5 as early as next month.
ChatGPT developer OpenAI has big plans for its AI. In the future, the AI will act on behalf of users. To this end, the expansion of the AI infrastructure is being pushed forward. By the end of the year, OpenAI also wants to use one million graphics cards for ChatGPT.
The next big step could follow as early as August: the release of GPT-5, the new large language model, according to the usually well-informed editor Tom Warren on The Verge website.
Warren cites people familiar with OpenAI’s plans as his source. The statement is confirmed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who promised on X that GPT-5 would be released soon.
We will release GPT-5 soon, but want to set realistic expectations: it is an experimental model that includes new research techniques that we will use in future models. We believe you will like GPT-5, but we do not plan to release a model with IMO gold-level capabilities in the next few months.
we achieved gold medal level performance on the 2025 IMO competition with a general-purpose reasoning system! to emphasize, this is an LLM doing math and not a specific formal math system; it is part of our main push towards general intelligence.

In the last sentence, Altman refers to the gold medal that OpenAI’s language model received at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
However, GPT-5 will not reach this level in the first few months after its release, Altman continues.
An AI tool for all tasks
With GPT-5, OpenAI wants to lay the foundation for a convergence of models.
In February, the OpenAI CEO promised to return to a “unified, intelligent solution” where users would no longer have to select a model for their query.
OPENAI ROADMAP UPDATE FOR GPT-4.5 and GPT-5:
We want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job simplifying our product offerings.
We want AI to “just work” for you; we realize how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten.

According to the announced plans, GTP-5 will include the o3 language model and other technologies.
Free access will provide unlimited access to GTP-5 with the default settings. The models will include “voice control, canvas, search, research, and much more.”
Plus and Pro subscribers will get extended access to the new AI, Altman said in February.
Now we want to hear from you. Do you use AI tools like ChatGPT regularly? What do you expect from the next generation of AI tools? Feel free to leave us a comment.
