A new scene from the upcoming season of The Witcher series is being torn apart by fans, but that’s not solely because of the actors.

Netflix has released a new, exclusive clip from the fourth season of The Witcher as part of IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025. The 40-second clip gives a first glimpse of the interaction between the new Geralt actor Liam Hemsworth and the newly introduced character Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne.

But instead of fueling anticipation for the upcoming release, the scene has sparked a wave of scathing criticism and ridicule in the community.

Geralt ordered on “Wish”? Fans voice sharp criticism

What’s there to see? The clip shows a gloomy scene, sparsely lit by candles, in which Geralt (Liam Hemsworth) and his companion Dandelion (Joey Batey) are apparently being held captive. Both are sitting on the floor, bound. The influential and ancient vampire Regis, played by Hollywood veteran Laurence Fishburne, ultimately rescues the two.

The community’s reactions to the new Geralt, played by Liam Hemsworth, have been overwhelmingly negative. Many viewers are critical of the portrayal of the witcher and the overall quality of the clip. Comparisons with cheap online shops are particularly popular.

A large number of comments quickly accumulated under the YouTube video:

  • @grandstorm3358: “Wow, that’s really bad… the drop in quality is more brutal than expected.”
  • @myfakename5582: “Oh wow, it looks and sounds like college kids’ first attempt at film and acting! Lol“
  • @menko22: ”Temu Geralt“
  • @Helianthus_: ”We have Witcher at home:“
  • @stylage: ”This is an SNL parody sketch.”
  • @Gametism: “Netflix is canceling everything except THAT.”
  • @LegBreakMMA: “Geralt of Temu.”
  • @Shadow0464-ey9eh: ” I’m sorry, but I can’t hold it back, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT HAIRSTYLE ON LAURENCE FISHBURNE LMFAO AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.“
  • @TheChazas: ”They’re still releasing this parody, I thought it was just a joke.”

The blame is being placed on the creators

Interestingly, however, much of the discontent is not directed at Liam Hemsworth as a person. Many fans emphasize that he took on a thankless task. They see the main responsibility for the perceived inferior quality lying with the showrunners and writers of the series, whom they have long accused of straying too far from Andrzej Sapkowski’s original books.
This attitude is clear in the comment by @andrewpaull7485: “I think Liam & Laurence will be okay, but it’s already a lost cause because of the creative decisions. Far too much hubris from the producers, who deviate from the source material and ignore the fans’ opinions.”

Whether the fourth season can still correct this impression remains to be seen on October 30, 2025.
