CoD will reach a historic peak in terms of content supply in 2025.

Black Ops 7 will be released on November 14 with a very robust launch lineup of 18 maps. But just a few weeks later, that number will grow to 25 – a record for the series. And in other respects, too, the new CoD is firing on all cylinders in terms of content volume!

Biggest season in CoD history

Developer Treyarch has big plans. In a dev video for the first season, which will start towards the end of 2025, the creators of Black Ops 7 are now revealing the first details:

Production Director Yale Miller doesn’t beat around the bush: “It’s the biggest season we’ve ever done in the entire history of the brand.”

What does Season 1 include?

  • 7 new multiplayer maps
  • 7 additional weapons
  • 3 maps for Zombies
  • New game modes
  • New scorestreak (Deadeye)

Comeback of many classics

Among the new maps for 6v6 multiplayer are several reissues of well-known classics. The legendary Nuketown map will return in a 2025 version on November 20, and there will also be a nostalgic reunion with Standoff and Meltdown from Black Ops 2.

But there will also be brand new maps such as Utopia and Odysseus. The mix of old and new locations will set a new record for the number of maps in the launch year: there will be 25 in total this year.

In terms of weapons, some classics are also making a comeback, including the popular Maddox assault rifle from Black Ops 4, the tech crossbow, and the ballistic knife.

Incidentally, the latter two are also used in Sticks & Stones, a popular game mode in the series that is also back in Season 1.

Positive fan response

Many fans are completely blown away by this lavish package.
In the comment sections on Reddit, YouTube, and social media, Black Ops 7 initially received rather poor reviews.
However, the tide seems to be slowly turning – especially since competitive pressure from Battlefield 6 has apparently prompted CoD to rethink some aspects of the game.

In terms of content updates, the community is certainly pleased. Here are a few examples:

  • 6 new maps are absolutely insane (not counting Nuketown). Meltdown is one of my favorite maps from Blops 2. It’s crazy that it’s never been reissued before.  (Reddit)
  • They’re going straight for the jugular. We haven’t had anything this promising in a long time – they could have distributed it even more. Absolutely awesome. Good job, Treyarch.  (Reddit)
  • Absolutely fantastic stuff, it’s cool to see that they’re really putting in the effort here. Can’t wait to finally play Maddox again.  (Twitter/X)

Most recently, Call of Duty bowed to pressure from the community on a number of points, removing the carry forward of skins from the previous game for Black Ops 7 and drastically reducing SBMM. Nevertheless, according to Steam statistics, the beta was nowhere near as popular as Battlefield 6.
