Be careful in Battlefield 6: if you use the tank skin from the Phantom Edition, you’ll be at a clear disadvantage!

Who says rich kids have it easy? Those who bought the most expensive edition of Battlefield 6 may find themselves at a tangible disadvantage in the game.

In the gaming world, few things rake in as much cash as skins. Battle passes, skin bundles, pre-order bonuses, event skins – modern service games would be unthinkable without the skin market. But sometimes, alternative clothing and paint jobs can also cause problems. Call of Duty, for example, had its famous wooden boy, which gave you unfair gameplay advantages and was therefore collectively shunned… haha, of course everyone used the skin.

And now it’s Battlefield 6’s turn: if you purchased the Phantom Edition of the game at a special price of $100, you’ll get very special skins for your soldiers and vehicles. This so-called Phantom Squad is dark and wicked and cool and just like that:

You can also paint your tank with this Phantom Squad livery, but this has unexpected disadvantages, as Reddit user rosebinks1215 noted here:

With the Phantom skin, the tank has two additional bumps (that’s the technical term) protruding from the side of the vehicle. If you hit these bumps from the front with a rocket, the hit causes critical damage. Normally, such critical hits are much more difficult to achieve, as you actually have to hit the rear (in technical jargon: the tank’s rear end). Here’s a comparison:

You can see the bumpers protruding quite far to the left and right. This is most likely a bug that Dice will fix at some point in the near or distant future. In the comments, however, people are generally upset that the hit zones on the tanks are very opaque, and they also depend heavily on whether you field the NATO variant or the Pax Armata variant. The Phantom Edition skins, for example, are only available to NATO.

Dice has not yet commented on the bug, but is currently in troubleshooting mode anyway to get the remaining issues with the launch version of Battlefield 6 under control. For example, painting jets is still far too powerful, players fall through the map in Battle Royale, and so on. We’ll keep you updated as soon as there are any developments.
