A few days before its release, Battlefield 6 is already revealing its first season. It’s packed with new content and gives us hope that things will continue in the same vein.
Battlefield 6 has already raised the hopes of many fans, but it still has a long way to go: First, the shooter has to get through a smooth release and, in the best case scenario, silence the voices that are skeptical about the single-player campaign.
After the release, the real baptism of fire awaits. That’s when the season model, with which the Battlefield community has often had bad experiences, finally begins.
So until we can say with certainty that Battlefield is back, the shooter will have to prove itself several times over. But with the reveal of Season 1, the developers are at least heading in the right direction. Because Season 1 is coming very soon (on October 28) and will be really big.
The EA deal: Background on the new owners
In September 2025, it was announced that EA would be privatized and transferred to an investor consortium for a sum of around €47 billion. The new owners of EA include the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund PIF and Affinity Partners, Jared Kushner’s investment firm. Saudi Arabia is accused of political and human rights abuses, such as the persecution of activists and journalists. There is also deep-rooted discrimination against minorities. Freedom of expression is structurally suppressed. Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, has repeatedly been criticized for dubious real estate deals, secret contacts with the Russian government, and allegations of corruption. Kushner also maintains close contact with Saudi Crown Prince and PIF Chairman Mohammed bin Salman.
A truckload of new content
In Battlefield 2042, the seasons were disappointing, at least for me. Due to the shooter’s many problems, the first content expansion was postponed for months and didn’t appear until more than half a year after release. Before the developers could even think about new maps, they first had to fix the hovercrafts that drove up vertical walls and eliminate a whole host of other bugs.
When they were finally ready, there was still only one new map in each season because they were also rebuilding the existing maps, forcing the specialists back into classes, and adding basic features like the scoreboard.
Season 1 of Battlefield 6, on the other hand, sends a completely different signal. The developers clearly have much more confidence in this release, as they have already announced that they will be releasing the first new content just a few weeks after launch. What’s more, the list of new content scheduled for release between now and December is much more impressive:
- Two new maps
- Two new game modes
- An event, including an event version of a well-known map
- Five new weapons, one new melee weapon
- A new vehicle
- The return of Battle Pickups
At first glance, this is a decent package that makes it worth playing for a few more hours, provided, of course, that the new maps, weapons, and modes are really fun.
But in any case, the new content is coming at a time when many players have not yet moved on to the next title.
Just a show, or a preview?
As good as Season 1 looks, I really hope that Battlefield 6 continues in this format: a new season every three months with the same scope, preferably over more than a year. Bonus points if a new feature is introduced each time, such as the weapon pickups in Season 1.
What I don’t hope for, however, is that the wealth of new content in Season 1 is only for marketing purposes. Of course, the developers want to show before the release that October 10 is by no means the end.
But some of the content seems a bit like they just wanted to make the overview appear a little fuller.
A simple transport truck with a machine gun as a new vehicle? A new stock as a separate item on the season roadmap? In my opinion, that wasn’t necessary at all.
After all, the core of the seasonal content is maps and weapons, and Season 1 delivers enough of those, even if there are some tricks involved here as well. The new SOR-300C rifle is just a variant of an assault rifle that was already available at launch.
All of this makes me a little skeptical about future seasons, but nevertheless, if Battlefield 6 continues to deliver such a respectable content package on a regular basis, with impressive quality, the shooter will keep me hooked in the long run.
Incidentally, what doesn’t appear in the Season 1 overview are the remakes of popular maps from previous games. Firestorm from Battlefield 3 is already in the game at launch, and the developers want to let the community decide on further remakes. There may not be another remake until Season 2, so we’ll have to wait and see which map comes next.
