Apparently, the ring of fire from Battlefield 5: Firestorm is returning.

It has long been considered a certainty that Battlefield 6 will feature Battle Royale. However, only rudimentary information about the mode has been available so far.

Now, well-known Battlefield leaker Temporyal has revealed exciting gameplay details that paint a more accurate picture of how the whole thing will play out.

  • Firestorm setting
  • Mission system
  • Vehicles
  • Oversight & Respawns
  • Release date
  • Developer

Where does this information come from?
The dataminer Temporyal obtains his information directly from the alpha build, which is currently being played by testers worldwide in Battlefield Labs. Since the information cannot be officially confirmed, you should treat it with caution. Details are subject to change at any time during development.

A firestorm as the setting

The large map of BF6’s BR mode is set in California There, after an explosion at a secret research facility, the chemical weapon NXC spreads, creating a wall of flames that shrinks the playing area in a circle, trapping players – this feature returns from Firestorm, the battle royale mode from Battlefield 5.

NXC will also play a central role in the story of EA Motive’s solo campaign. The setting is described as follows:

When several groups of mercenaries attack the lab, the commanding officer deploys an elite unit to secure the target area before the secrets fall into the wrong hands.

Mission Royale

On the BR map, squads can complete missions (such as planting a bomb at a specific location) to earn certain advantages, such as access cards for vehicle bunkers, weapon drops, and field upgrades that unlock certain class abilities.

However, missions are not without risk: other players can intervene and snatch the reward (for example, by defusing the bomb).

Class gadgets are also used in missions: the engineer can use the blowtorch to crack safes, for example.

Vehicle bunkers are back

Vehicles also play an important role in Battle Royale. Anyone who loots a key card to a vehicle bunker can get their hands on a powerful vehicle. Vehicle bunkers like this already existed in BF5’s Firestorm mode, where battle tanks lay dormant, for example – a tangible advantage for squads who ventured there.

To counter vehicles, BF6 once again features class gadgets such as rocket launchers and mines. If a squad doesn’t have the right equipment at hand, it will have to scavenge crates containing anti-tank weapons. Vehicles can be repaired and reloaded at resupply stations.

Even after death,

Those who bite the dust early in a BR round get a second chance and can rejoin the match; however, it remains unclear how long this grace period lasts. At certain redeploy points, squads can revive their fallen teammates – but only if no enemy players capture the point and prevent the respawn.

But even those who are permanently out of the game can still contribute: instead of just watching, dead players can control cameras, drones, and towers in the Oversight system and support their squad from beyond the grave. To do this, the team must capture an Oversight terminal.

More exciting details:

  • Vehicles standing around have loot, but may be alarmed.
  • There are armor plates that can be obtained from the supply crate of the supply class, for example.
  • Melee kills of downed players briefly reveal the position of their team.
  • The NXC fire ring burns everything and everyone, and players nearby take damage.
  • Vehicle key cards can be collected from defeated enemies.
  • Loadout drops contain weapons that were built in the Gunsmith.

When will BR be released?

Dataminer Temporyal himself believes that the Battle Royale mode will appear in Season 1 of BF6, in which the US West Coast could be the central theme. Leaked artwork already hinted at battles in the Hollywood Hills, but New York is said to be the only US location at launch.

According to Temporyal, a content package centered around L.A. would also make sense from a marketing perspective for the first season – then the two California-based multiplayer maps Badlands and Eastwood, a downtown remaster from BF Hardline (also from Ripple Effect) and Battle Royale could be released together.

This is also supported by the fact that BR-relevant content such as the armor system is linked to “S1,” according to Temporyal in an interview with GlobalESportNews

Who is developing the BR?

The (as yet unnamed) Battle Royale is reportedly a standalone Free2Play spin-off from Battlefield 6. The mode is being developed by Ripple Effect (formerly DICE L.A.) under Respawn founder Vince Zampella.

This automatically refutes the frequently made claim that a Battle Royale would take resources away from the development of the main game – because multiplayer developer DICE has nothing to do with Battle Royale in the first place.
