Battlefield 6 Beta Bug Is Breaking Players’ Aim

A newly identified Battlefield 6 bug sneakily breaks players’ aim after select slides by messing with the game’s bloom algorithm. The issue has reportedly been present throughout the open beta period and now seems unlikely to be fixed before the end of the ongoing Battlefield 6 test.

Bloom—also called weapon spread or reticle bloom—is a gameplay mechanic in many modern shooters that introduces a degree of randomness to aiming. Rather than having bullets always strike precisely where the player aims, bloom makes projectile paths vary within a defined cone or differently-shaped area around the crosshair, depending on the exact implementation. The mechanic serves several functions: it discourages spray-and-pray automatic fire and creates an element of unpredictability that many developers argue adds to realism and helps with balancing. Battlefield games have long incorporated bloom in some shape or form, and the upcoming sixth numbered entry in the franchise continues this trend.

Battlefield 6 Beta Bug Breaks Bloom

An animation bug in the ongoing Battlefield 6 open beta has recently been discovered to cause persistent slide bloom, even if the player stops moving. The issue was initially spotted by popular streamer Shroud, prompting further investigation by YouTuber TheXclusiveAce (via Insider Gaming). According to the content creator’s findings, having the sliding animation interrupted in any way can make the game mistakenly leave the player in the sliding bloom state, significantly—and sneakily—reducing their ability to aim.

Even Without a Slide Cancel, Battlefield 6 Slides Are Easy to Interrupt

Battlefield 6 movement mechanics do not include a traditional slide cancel, like the one from the recent Call of Duty games. Nevertheless, having one’s slide interrupted is a semi-frequent occurrence, as simply colliding with uneven terrain or geometry will do the trick. The sliding animation can also be canceled by jumping, a technique that has gained popularity during the open beta for making players harder to hit. Because there is no visual indicator of the stuck sliding bloom state, most affected players are likely unaware of their aim being impaired.

How To Fix Stuck Sliding Bloom in Battlefield 6 Beta

Based on TheXclusiveAce’s testing, the stuck sliding bloom state is semi-permanent. Specifically, it will persist after a canceled animation even if the player stands still or crouches. At the same time, it is reportedly possible to fix the issue by completing an uninterrupted slide, which will have the game apply the correct bloom state afterward.

The second Battlefield 6 open beta is scheduled to conclude in the early morning hours on Monday, August 18. With just over 24 hours remaining, the sliding bloom bug appears unlikely to be fixed before the test ends, though it will presumably be resolved by the time the game itself launches on October 10.
